LKL Staal provides forging for, among others, agriculture, automotive, trailers, maritime and construction. The choice of materials is large. Popular materials are St52 and 42CrMo4.
Forging can provide a more uniform component, compared to an equivalent cast component. By reshaping the material under high pressure, the internal structure is changed into the shape of the product. The result is a product with a more uniform material structure.
Some materials can be reshaped "cold". Steel and iron are almost always heated (hot forging). Hot forging prevents a product from becoming too hard by reshaping the internal structure. This might make post-processing more difficult. Sometimes this hardness is desirable. When forging, think about large amounts (> 2,000 units dependent on the weight per unit) and higher tool costs than when a product is cast.
